Gluten Hero

Where it's been, where it's going

    Roadmap

Gluten Hero started as a prototype on March 7, 2026. This page is the honest record: what shipped, when, what a member reported that changed it, and what is next. The numbers are counted from the build log, not typed in.

    Where it's been

    Four chapters so far

Milestones marked from the community started as a bug report or feature request from a member or tester. The full list of everything shipped is in the build log.

    March 7 – April 30, 2026

    Building the app

From a first prototype to a working app in under eight weeks: receipts, trips, medical expenses, and the report that ties them together.

    1. First screens built

Onboarding, the dashboard, and the bottom tab bar were the first three things to exist. The app was called GlutenGuard and lived in Lovable.

    2. Moved to a real codebase

Two days after the prototype, the app was migrated to a native React codebase so every feature after this could be tested and reviewed like real software.

    3. The full report, and a way to tell us when something breaks

The multi-page PDF report for your CPA or tax professional shipped the same day as the in-app bug report button that beta testers still use.

    4. Bug Desk becomes one tool

Every report a tester files lands in one admin desk with triage, history, and a fix record, so nothing reported gets lost.

    May 1 – May 21, 2026

    Pre-Beta and the Beta Gate

Founding Members got in first. Behind the gate, nine focused sprints answered a competitor analysis line by line, and the sign-in flow was rebuilt around what testers actually hit.

    1. Pre-Beta opens to Founding Members

A closed cohort of invited testers, iterating daily.

    2. Sprint 0: cheap visible wins

Tracked Since badge, average premium per receipt, a red Extra Cost callout, dark mode, and a forbidden-language audit of every screen.

    3. Sprints 1 and 2: tax-year filters and year-over-year

Pick a tax year on Reports, export just that year, and compare two years side by side for items, travel, and medical.

    4. Sprints 3 and 4: Insights, plus import and export

Charts and plain-language insight cards, and a way to bring your data in from CeliTrack or a spreadsheet with one-tap rollback.

    5. Sprints 5, 5b, 5c, 5d: polish, trust, phones, accessibility

Saving tips, honest empty states with confidence framing, charts that work on a phone, screen-reader summaries on every card.

    6. Sprint 6: installable app that works offline

Install to your home screen, log receipts and trips without a signal, and let them sync when you are back online.

    7. Beta Gate goes up

Sign-in checks the invite list before it does anything else, so only Founding Members and invited testers get in.

    8. from the community

Magic links retired for a 6-digit code

Testers on iPhone home-screen installs kept landing signed-out because the magic link opened in Safari. The code-paste flow fixed it for every device at once.

    9. from the community

      Restaurant surcharges count too

A member asked why a $2 gluten-free upcharge at a restaurant could not be logged. Store or Restaurant became a choice on every entry within the week.

    May 22 – June 30, 2026

    Public Beta

Billing, receipt scanning, and a help center, with the gate still up. Most of what shipped here started as a tester report.

    1. Public Beta opens

Free and paid tiers ship over the following ten days.

    2. Shareable invite links

One link with a use cap and a 30-day expiry, so a tester could bring a friend without an admin typing in each email.

    3. Optional password sign-in

The 6-digit code stays the default; a password became an opt-in second method for people who wanted one.

    4. Scan a receipt

Snap a photo and the gluten-free items land in the form with names and prices filled in, ready to review. Paid plans only, with a daily spend guard so no one can run up the bill.

    5. A lane for caregivers

The design system gained a caregiver audience and the Caregiver Guide was published on the resources hub.

    6. from the community

      The hamburger menu spillage, fixed

A Founding Member reported the resources site nav spilling out on phones. The cause was a caching rule serving year-old CSS; every shared asset now carries a version stamp.

    July 1, 2026 – today

    Live

The gate came down. Since then the work has been pricing, Canada, and making sure we find out when something breaks before you do.

    1. Go Live: free self-serve signup opens

Anyone can sign up for the free plan. Receipt scanning stays on paid plans, and bug reports got a cap so the widget cannot be flooded.

    2. Training videos in the help center

Help articles can embed a video inline; the beta-tester walkthroughs were the first.

    3. Bug Desk becomes its own product

The reporting tool built for Gluten Hero testers was extracted into a standalone repo for reuse.

    4. Quarterly spending audit worksheet gets a page

A free download that had no page to find or share now has one.

    5. Two plans: Free, and Annual at $49

The Monthly plan was retired and the rising-price schedule with it. Anyone who joined earlier keeps what they signed up for.

    6. from the community

Canada gets kilometres and the right tax form

A Canadian member was asked for miles on trips and their Share Report email named a US form. Both now follow the member's country.

    7. from the community

      "Everyone's a founder!" fixed

A brand-new free account showed a Founding Member badge. Founding status now requires a paid plan, enforced in one place, and the mislabeled accounts were corrected.

    8. from the community

Sign-in code not arriving? Check spam

The sign-in screen now says so, and a help article explains what to do.

    9. The sites are watched

This roadmap page had been crashing for months and nothing noticed. Every public page is now loaded by a monitor every 30 minutes, and the status page reads real checks instead of a hand-edited file.

    Right now

Shipped in the last 30 days

Counted from the build log at the last deploy. No sprint is marked in progress; the work below is what actually landed.

    • Removed a folder that landed in the wrong repo

Cleared out a folder from another project that was pushed into this repo by mistake, so the codebase holds only Gluten Hero.

      Shipped
    • Academy admins can open the Founding Members courses

Gluten Hero admins can now open and review the four Founding Members courses in the Academy without holding a membership or being labeled a Founding Member.

      Shipped
    • Academy admin access verified live and documented

Confirmed that admins can open the Academy's Founding Members courses on the live site, and recorded what's still needed before those courses have lessons to read.

      Shipped
    • Resources library links fixed, stale labels cleaned up

Every button in the resources library header and footer now leads somewhere real, and the page no longer shows "null min" or out-of-date "updated" claims.

      Shipped
    • The Academy's first 30 days, one small step a day

The free First Month course is now a real 30-day course: one theme a week, seven short lessons, and a two-minute "log one thing" task on the days in between.

      Shipped
    • Upgrading now tells you it worked

After you pay for the Annual plan, the Billing screen confirms the upgrade instead of showing you the buy button again.

      Shipped
    • September look at what the other celiac cost apps are doing

Four months after the first competitor teardown, we checked every known product again and hunted for new ones, so the next round of building is aimed at real gaps.

      Shipped
    • Pop-up messages no longer cover the bug button

Short messages like "You earned a badge" now appear at the top of the screen instead of on top of the bug-report button.

      Shipped
    • Buying Annual through the checkout link now sets up your account automatically

A $49/year purchase through the Stripe checkout link creates your Founding Member record, your app login, and your welcome email without anyone doing it by hand.

      Shipped
    • Upgrade and Manage Billing work again in the app

Clicking Upgrade or Manage Billing in the app reaches Stripe again instead of failing with a server error.

      Shipped
    • In-app pricing answers match the two-plan world

The app's own FAQ, upgrade prompts, and sign-in screen no longer quote the retired deposit, founding price, or Monthly plan.

      Shipped
    • The bug button dropped its BETA badge

The little red BETA tag on the bug-report button in the app is gone; Gluten Hero has been live since July 1 and the button is a permanent part of it.

      Shipped
    • Every page now prices Gluten Hero the same way: free to try, $49 to keep your records

The community site, resources hub, docs, and welcome emails all describe the two real plans and nothing else, and every buy button goes to the one live checkout.

      Shipped
    • Every parked idea now has one home and a verified status

The list of every future or parked Gluten Hero feature has been checked against the actual code and turned into a single planning page, so nothing gets rebuilt, forgotten, or promised twice.

      Shipped
    • The free plan's 30-receipt cap now counts what you log

The free plan's limit of 30 receipts a month now counts receipts you log this month, whatever date is printed on them.

      Shipped
    • Gluten Hero stays gluten

A standing decision: Gluten Hero tracks the cost of living gluten-free, and any tool for other conditions will be its own app, not a mode inside this one.

      Shipped
    • Invite-expiry reminder emails are finally wired to deploy

Invited testers with a time-limited account will get the 7-day, 3-day, and 1-day reminder emails, which had been written in May but never actually deployed or scheduled.

      Shipped
    • The partnership form on glutenhero.net now reaches a real inbox

Dietitians, nonprofits, GF brands, clinics, and tax professionals who fill out the partnership form on glutenhero.net now land in a saved record, an email to the partnerships inbox, and a team alert, instead of a mailto link.

      Shipped
    • The public roadmap now tells the real story

The Roadmap page on the community site shows where Gluten Hero started, everything that shipped and when, which changes came from member reports, and what is next, all sourced from the repo instead of a list that went stale in May.

      Shipped
    • status.glutenhero.net loads straight to the status page

status.glutenhero.net now opens directly on the status page with no flash of the home page, and the uptime history reads the way it should.

      Shipped
    • The status page now tells the truth on its own

status.glutenhero.net shows measured health: the banner and the 90-day uptime dots come from the automated checks that run every 30 minutes, not from a file someone has to remember to edit.

      Shipped
    • Status page speaks plain English, and every row is really checked

status.glutenhero.net now lists App, Main Site, Community Site, Resources Hub, Sign In, and Checkout, and all six are checked automatically every 30 minutes.

    Where it's going

    What's next

Kept current by hand and reordered when a member report earns it. Anything that ships moves off this list and into the build log. Want something on it? Ask for it.

How this page stays honest: the timeline cites the repo document behind every milestone, the counts are computed from the build log at build time, and the upcoming list is the only part edited by hand.
